Joint Sprain

Joint Sprain

A joint sprain occurs when the connective tissue that stretches over a joint is damaged or torn. A joint sprain can cause instability within the joint, increasing the likelihood of further injury if not treated.
A typical example of a joint sprain is a sprained ankle. A sprained ankle is a tear within one or more of the ligaments of the ankle that provide stability and support to the ankle joint. Another example of a sprained joint is finger sprains, which are sprains to ligaments within fingers. The big toe joint's sprain usually results from jumping and landing pressures; it is mainly seen among athletes who play sports such as basketball, football, and tennis.
